Pioneer Square
At home in the historic Schwabacher Hardware building in Pioneer Square, this condo remodel turned a small, inefficient space into a sunny and bright space for entertaining. With exposed architectural beams and posts, original brick and views overlooking First Street, the client wanted to create an open floor plan that brought all of the building’s charm centerstage. Beginning with a full reimagining of the layout, the kitchen, dining and living spaces were moved from the dark back of the unit to the front. The kitchen island acts as the hub for everyday cooking and entertaining. Custom stainless steel panels make up the backsplash and open shelving. A new gas fireplace, clad in blacked steel, divides the living space and dining room. To house and feature the owner’s artwork, artifacts and objects collected from her world travel, custom bent-steel shelving was designed to be functional and appear as if it were original. To divide the living spaces from the private owner’s suite, large sliding barn doors were designed to blend in as walls when open, and slide effortlessly when closed. A large walk-in closet and compact laundry room were added to the master suite.
