When the owners purchased this 1940s Cape, it retained its original, highly compartmentalized floor plan. While the living room was comfortable, other spaces felt cramped and inefficient, with much of the area dedicated to circulation and doorways. Despite having a generous yard, there was little connection to the outdoors. The owners wanted to open up the interior to create a more inviting and functional home, as well as establish a stronger connection to the rear yard. To achieve this, we added a modest extension at the back and opened up the main living areas, fostering a better flow between the spaces and the outdoor environment. We also redesigned the staircase to improve the connection between the two floors.Upstairs, we reconfigured the existing dormer to change the roofline, allowing for a more spacious and efficient bathroom while maintaining the same footprint.
